Welcome to Year 6 for Summer 2 term everyone!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Last term the children worked so hard preparing for their final assessments to demonstrate all their learning through their primary school careers. We were so proud to see them face those tests with confidence and determination. And, the children really did live up to their potential.
In school, we are following our regular curriculum in many areas such as history, geography, science, RE, PE. However a large proportion of our time will be given over to preparing for Year 6s moment in the spotlight! Our extravaganza - OLIVER! - is only weeks away. We will be beyond busy preparing to sing, to dance, to act our way into the HPAPL history books with a production to end all productions!
English: As with last half term, we will explore and understand the rich vocabulary in Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. You will see this and our incredible speaking and listening skills in our production.
Maths: In maths, we will be focusing on the properties of shape, as well as algebra and statistics. We will also be revising arithmetic.
Science: Our little scientists will be learning about electricity, circuits and the movement of electrons. We will also be taking part in a science workshop and conducting our special NASA project.
Computing: Pupils will be learning about spreadsheets and continue exploring coding.
PE: It’s athletics season at HPAPL! Children will be practising all sorts of Olympic related games and races. On your marks!
Art/DT: Children will be learning how to artistically show movement, perspective and working on our set for Oliver.
Geography: This half term the children will be creating and implementing a geographical investigation. They will travel to Highgate wood to conduct their study.
History: This half term we will continue to think about Britain after WWII. We will be investigating the founding of the NHS.
RE: In RE, like the rest of the school, we will be exploring a big question. We will think about what happens after life ends.
