Last night’s treat...marshmallows around the campfire! 🔥 🔥

It has been so fun interacting with all our parents, especially the Year 6 parents, this week on Twitter! We think it's a great way to keep up to date with what's going on at the academy day to day. We hope you'll spread the word to other parents and keep getting in touch!

It is great to see the wonderful learning the children have done at home. If you haven't yet made a home learning project with your child, it is not too late and we would love to see as many projects as possible on our Class home learning board!

In Madrid Class, children have learnt about Remembrance Day and made wonderful poppies using different creative materials.

Thank you very much to all our parent readers this term, the children have really enjoyed the stories. If you would like to read to our class, our parent reading times are every Monday or Wednesday. Please speak to Miss Ebersveiller to book a time.

Fueling up for a day of caving!

Girl time...who’s ready for dinner?

Harris Academies
All Academies in our Federation aim to transform the lives of the students they serve by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration.

The Governing Body

The main role for governors is to support the Principal and staff – the phrase often used to describe this role is ‘a critical friend’. Governors help the school to set and reach targets and to strive for excellence across the whole spectrum of academy life. The two key documents used for this are the Academy Improvement Plan (AIP) and the Summary Self Evaluation Form (SEF). The AIP sets out our strategic plan for the school, with targets that everyone works towards and the SEF sets out how well the school is doing and where we aim to make improvements. Our Chair of Governors is Ms Susan Head and our link governor for safeguarding is Mr Andrew Spearman. They can be contacted via

Governors also fulfil a range of legal duties including:

  • setting strategic direction, policies and objectives
  • approving the budget
  • monitoring the progress and impact of the AIP
  • appointing, challenging and supporting the Principal
  • safeguarding duty
  • performance review

The full Governing Body meets once every term. At this meeting, the Principal reports to all governors about learning, progress, staffing, financial and premises matters. There is a small group responsible for financial management who with the Business Manager, keep an eye on school finances between our termly governor meetings. All governors are informed about what happens at these monthly finance meetings.

There are several categories of governor, appointed by different groups that have an interest in the school including from the community, parents and staff. All governors have equal status, however they are appointed.

The Governing Body of Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane

The Academy is a member of the Harris Federation. Ultimate responsibility for the Academy rests with the Board of Trustees of the Federation, (Federation governance details and scheme of delegation can be found here), but much of the work of the Board is delegated to the Local Governing Body (the Governors of the Academy). The details of the Governors at Harris Primary Academy Philip Lane are shown below.
