Modern Foreign Language

We have taught Spanish at the academy for the last 4 years across Years 3 - 6. Mr Sarmiento is our specialist Spanish teacher who teaches Key Stage 2 classes throughout the week.  Mr Sarmiento is Spanish and qualified as a Primary teacher in Spain several years ago.  He is passionate about teaching us his native language.

Our Spanish curriculum is in line with the new National Curriculum and is adapted to each class topic to ensure children learn Spanish in a meaningful context. We take a cross curricular approach to teaching Spanish, particularly through music and PE. A number of our teachers and pupils with English as an additional language are fluent Spanish speakers which is very helpful because we are able to listen to them and share their expertise.

Spanish teaching is supported by other events to enhance language development and cultural understanding. At the end of November we are very much looking forward to our Spanish themed lunch. In addition to this we also have a weekly Spanish Club, which runs after school.

For 2017-2018 we are in the process of dedicating shelves in our library to Spanish fiction and non fiction texts. We are very excited to develop this new section of our library
