Reading
Intent
Children will master reading as the fundamental key to cross-curriculum success. They will acquire a secure understanding of phonics to achieve fluency and develop reading capital alongside an independent love for literature through daily exposure to high quality, diverse, challenging texts.
Implementation
Read Write Inc and Fresh Start: Focuses of progress of phonics Reception to year 2. Taught daily how to blend sounds, letters, digraphs and sound blending. Books that match sounds are sent home in line with the sequence of learning.Daily reading lessons: focus on the development of reading skills, group reading and comprehension.Fresh Start: Anthologies are givenReading Challenge: 36 books that are carefully chosen for each year group. Children chose and read weekly by the children at home and at school. Children are rewarded at the end of each week with a class sticker upon completion of book. Half termly certificate for those children reading 6 books in a half term.
Writing
Intent
Children will develop an extensive vocabulary within complex sentence structures, alongside the knowledge of specific literacy features. They will be confident writers able to maturely articulate their thoughts in a variety of contexts. They will use this skill to augment their success across the wider curriculum
Handwriting
Intent
Children will write fluently and neatly with speed and accuracy, in order to maximise short-term memory function for the acquisition of knowledge, concepts, skills and composition.
